By implementing "6 NOs and 3 YESes," people can safely handle the prevention of H7N9 avian influenza.
The poultry meat should be cooked and eaten.
1. The principle of safe handling of edible poultry: The poultry influenza virus is not resistant to the external environment and is very sensitive to heat. It can be killed by heating at 100°C for one minute, and it is easy to be killed in an acidic environment. Most disinfectants can also destroy it. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) report, cooked poultry meat, eggs, or their by-products do not risk infection to humans. WHO and OIE have repeatedly stated that there have never been cases of poultry influenza infection caused by eating chicken. Therefore, as long as chicken, duck, or eggs are not eaten raw, there should be no doubts about hygiene and safety.
2. The Principle of "6 NOs and 3 YESes" can help the Prevention of H7N9 Avian Influenza:
(1) Six NOs: "Do not feed at close range," "Do not visit bird flu-endemic areas," "Do not buy meat from unidentified poultry," "Do not Buy or Eat Sick Birds," "Do not Slaughter by Yourself," "Do not eat raw."
(2) 3 YESes: "Wash your hands frequently," "Eat cooked food," "Improve immunity."
