The vendors of the market used to occupy the empty space near the intersection of Nangang Road and Sanchong Road. After the construction of Xinmin Market, all the vendors were relocated to the basement of the market; however, business was not good at that time. The government noticed that there were no markets near the Academia Sinica, therefore Zhongyuan Market was built on the current site in February 1983 and moved 58 vendors that were under the basement of Xinmin Market over to the new site. Xinmin Market was demolished in September 1998 due to the development of Nangang Trade Zone. All sorts of fresh products and commodities are sold here
